Battle's End

The road I trekked this term was harrowing but I persevered. The lone silence of before is replaced by the cheerful melodies of success. I have finally passed my second term as a senior and I have passed it with flying colors. I could imagine the planes flying high, spewing colorful smoke with the letter- S-U-C-C-E-S-S-! The amalgam of sounds raced across the horizon beckoning to the tired warriors who have lived the see the battle through and through. We are survivors but we were soldiers. Soldiers of what? Soldiers that had different reasons to fight and we shared the same battlefield. We bled the same blood and now we are here on the end of the battle and the start of a new day.

These past two months proved to have tested all of my abilities not only as a student but also as a person. I achieved something that I never thought that I would. Sure only a chosen few got 3.0 from Pedro but what I earned is more than that badge- I learned to survive. Before the last two weeks of this long, long battle I was unprepared. I was a soldier that was not aptly trained. I did not read, I did not take notes and sometimes I didn’t even listen. I felt the whole world crashing down on me as the dawn of the battle was drawing near. I was lazy and I was getting bored of all of this that is why I felt no reason to train myself, no reason to read all those stupid readings and far worse I found no reason to even Xerox them.

Callous? Yes, I may have been too naïve to think that I could pull it off without reading. That is why I fought during the last weeks of this grand battle. I read and read even in the wee hours of the morning. From Dusk till dawn I left no time for Yam Cha, no time for recess and no time for even a single breath. I studied and understood. My friend Roselle and I desperately tried to read all those readings in a span of two days- we did it with tired eyes and a battered body. But in the end it was all worth it especially for me. The special training worked and I preserved through the battle.
